Beware – what you post on social media could affect your insurance claim. Always be careful of what you post to your social media profiles, as insurers and law enforcement officials monitor social media posts to check for insurance fraud.
If you are claiming in the event of a vehicle accident, make sure your Facebook, Twitter and other social media accounts do not reveal any details about the accident that you have omitted in your report to the police or insurance company.
In one instance a woman claimed for her vehicle which was involved in a crash but the insurance company found out on social media that it was in fact her son, who is not covered in the policy, who crashed her car. Needless to say, her claim was not paid out.
Also beware of posting that you are going away on holiday, and for how long, as this gives thieves too much information about your movements.
