Vivo’s V3 and V3Max handset enjoyed quite a bit of popularity in the value segment of the market, after their release earlier this year. However things are now moving at a phenomenal pace and, despite their young age, both handsets are due for an update, if the Chinese OEM wants to stay relevant.
Said update will likely come with the new Vivo V5 and its bigger sibling – the V5 Plus (apparently, the Max moniker is no longer in fashion). The pair have been popping up in the rumor mill from time to time over the past few months, but with no actual information to note. Now, a fresh new leak, suggests both handsets will feature a whopping 20MP front-facing camera. If this comes to pass, then vivo is definitely working hard on its ongoing quest towards a great selfie experience.
Both handsets are also said to come with Funtouch OS 2.6, or Android 6 Marshmallow out of the box, with a Nougat update still a while away. Sadly, that is all the info we have on the V5 Plus. But on the flip side, a full specs sheet has leaked for the vivo V5.
According to it, it will be equipped with a 5.5-inch HD display, which fills the size slot previously occupied by the V3Max, potentially leaving room for an even bigger panel on the V5 Plus. The similarities carry over in some other specs areas as well, like the Snapdragon 652 SoC, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage. Some other V5 internals include an AK4376 Hi-Fi audio chip and, of course, the standard slew of sensors and connectivity options: Wi-Fi, GPS, GLONASS, Acelerometer, Light, Proximity, and E-compass sensor.
The vivo V5 is also a dual-SIM, dual standby device, with support for both FDD-LTE and TD-LTE bands. And last, but not least, a sealed-in 3,000 mAh battery will keep the light on. As for the exterior of the V5, it comes with a metal shell in Gold or Rose Gold color, measuring 153.8 x 75.5 x 7.55 mm. The handset tips the scale at 154 grams.
Vivo is expected to announce the V5 on November 15 in Mumbai with a price tag of under INR 20,000. Around the same time, on November 16, to be exact, the Chinese OEM is said to launch the X9 and X9 Plus handsets on its home market. The latter will likely be pretty similar to the V5 models, but could actually go even a step further in the selfie camera department, with a dual 20MP plus 8MP front-facing setup.
