Patna: Patna High Court suspended Araria POCSO judge Shashikant Rai while divesting of judicial and administrative powers of seven others posted across different districts of the state.
Interestingly, the suspended Araria judge created history on January 27, 2022, with his judgement leading to what was claimed to be the quickest conviction in a POCSO case across the country. The prosecution directorate of the state home department issued a communiqué making the claim.
Araria POCSO judge Shashikant Rai convicted one Mohd Major for raping a 6-year old in Bhimnagar Bisariya under Bhargama police station of the district on the 56th day of the incident. That apart, the court also ordered a cash compensation amount of Rs 10 lakh to be given to the victim’s family for her better upkeep.
The convict was intercepted and subsequently arrested by the cops as he tried to slip into Nepal immediately after the incident. Elated by the quick response, the district police administration announced that the members of the raiding police party will be rewarded. Araria SP Ashok Kumar made an official statement in this regard.
It is worth mentioning here that not a single defence witness was produced before the court as evident from the 39-page order copy as accessed by TIMES NOW.
