If you have an old cell phone that you are about to toss out, consider these ideas before simply throwing it away. Here are a couple of things you can do with an old cell phone that may benefit you or someone else.
One option is to turn that old cell phone into something that you can still use. For example, if you are going to be traveling to a foreign country, you may worry about losing your new phone that is a lot more valuable. Instead of taking that new phone along, leave it at home. Take your old cell phone. In the worst-case scenario, you will lose something that you were going to throw away. Or you can re-purpose it and use it for something else that do not want to use your newer and nicer phone for. For example, load up a bunch of podcasts or songs on the phone and take it along with you to the gym. The last thing you want for your new phone is for it to become all sweaty or to accidentally get broken while you’re working out.
You may be able to fix your old cell phone and then sell it. If you are mechanically inclined or are just interested in electronics, take some time to learn exactly how cell phones work and then try to figure out what needs to be done to improve your old cell phone. You may need to do is buy some replacement parts, like new DCC decoders for example, and then it will be in great working condition. You can get at least a couple of dollars for the phone you were going to toss out.
Another idea is to donate it to a charity organization. In this case, you will feel good about the way your cell phone will be used. In some cases, it may be given to an individual who would not be able to afford one and can use it for emergencies. Or it may be refurbished and sold and then the profits can be used by the charity.
